We all know the Covid pandemic has changed our daily routines and Sakura Kai has made changes never imagined. We have met at the Alvarado adult school campus since 2018 but West Contra Costa Adult Education has closed classes there due to the pandemic. To continue our mission of providing lifelong learning activities two Saturdays a month our volunteers, teachers, and tech resource people now help us provide on line Zoom classes. We send Email mail updates to our students to notify them of activities with phone calls and postal mail for those unable to access email. We schedule a speaker every month and offer six classes with a discussion session for Japanese-speaking students and hope to add more classes in the future. We will continue Zoom on line classes until there is a safe return to the Alvarado campus.
Mission Statement:
The mission of Sakura Kai is to provide its seniors, including Japanese-speaking seniors, with lifelong learning opportunities and to sustain and share with the public Japanese-American culture and traditions for the present and future generations. We strive to enhance personal health and nutrition, consumer awareness, intellectual growth, technology skills, personal development, and provide opportunities to socialize in a secure environment.
